What Manufacturer are putting into Cat Food

Guest What?
Cat food manufacturers are now putting insects into cat food.
Yes you hear it right.
Insects in Cat Food!
And we need to talk about it.

Cat food manufacturers claims that insect base protein are sustainable and eco-friendly. And they will put up chart like this to prove their claims.

  • It produce ZERO food wastage as all inside parts are edible
  • and it has low environmental impact for the same amount of protein produce
So all is good right?
From my opinion there are a lot of cat food recalls and mistrust between the cat community and cat food business over the years.

For those working in the commercial or sales sector will understand that all this are just icings on the cake, to attract buyers. My concert for this insect bae diet is that, it is not natural as nature intended. If a cat was design in nature to only eat insects. They would have done so.

But unfortunately this is not the case as we see in reality. Yes, cats does play with insects and at times nip at them. But they do not eat insect as a main source of diet.

For those of you who are feeding raw diet to your cats will understand that cats require more than just protein. They require, flesh, muscle, fats, bones, whatever is contain in the bones [such as the bone marrow], organs such as livers and hearts and the list goes on. From what I can see the cat food industrial is trying to make more profit by having a lower cost production.

So the question comes, how wholesome or complete is an insect base diet?
This is something that will always be at the back of my mind while shopping any type of cat food. There is no right or wrong answers. Instead I want this site to be a platform where the cat lover community could discuss on cats related matter. So any cat parents can make a well and inform decision when it come to your own cats.

For now, since information is limit on the topic and more research need to be done in this area. I think it is more import to understand on how to read the ingredient list and not to read into the fluff. For that do click on this link where I discuss more in dept on how to read and understand cat food labels
