Cat Hoarding

Cat hoarding have always been a problem globally for both humans and cats.  So what is cat hoarding?

Definition of Cat Hoarding given by Hoarding of Animals Research Consortium;
  • Having more than the typical number of companion animals.
  • Failing to provide even minimal standards of nutrition, sanitation, shelter, and veterinary care, with this neglect often resulting in illness and death from starvation, spread of infectious disease, and untreated injury or medical condition.
  • Denial of the inability to provide this minimum care and the impact of that failure on the animals, the household, and human occupants of the dwelling.
  • Persistence, despite this failure, in accumulating and controlling animals.

Effects on Humans/Cats

  • The amount of cats to income ratio gap will keep increasing. Leading to the hoarder unable to keep up both basic life and cats' needs
  • Increase stress due to increase financial issues.
  • Neighbors leaving in a apartment setup will tend to be affected by massive cats sounds and increasing smell through out the day. Neighbors' complain to the build management might get both the hoarder and cats evicted from the apartment,
  • Living areas becoming cramped and filthy.
  • Hoarder health will deteriorate due to filthy living environment.
  • Cats' health's will deteriorate due to filthy living environment.
  • If any cats were to have any contagious diseases such as a flu, it will be easily spread to the other cats in such cramped environment.
  • Due to space constrain, there might be multiple cats' conflict/fights due to territory issues.
  • Frequent cats' fight with bad leaving environment will most of the time lead to high risk of death if left untreated.
